if i were a fly on the wallA Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa
I f I were a fly on the wall I'd have myself a ball. F lying around playing hide and go seek.
I 'd listen in on people's conversations.
W ith close observations. E scaping fly swatters when they try to catch me. R olling around there heads in circles as I buzz by. E vading rolled newspaper as they try to swat me.
A fly doesn't get a whole lot of respect.
F lying around things that don't smell so keen. L ike people's trash, dog's dung, and other dead things. Y ou wouldn't like my job, now would you?
O pen the window, I'll fly outside and soar in the sky. N ow somewhat I'm sure you must envy me.
T hese beautiful wings set my spirit free. H ow would you feel if you were a winged creature like me. E xperiencing the freedom of flight day and night.
W ell if flies could talk, we could tell you. A thing or two, like keeping wild animals locked in a zoo. L ike all the pollution people leave behind, we must live here too. © 2008 Deborah Leah Krempa |
