Cherokee Mountain

Cherokee Mountain

A Poem by Deborah Leah Krempa

There is a mountain I must climb.

To chase away these ghosts, here in my mind.

I'll know when I get there.

Wearing three bald eagle feathers in my hair.

No more shall these eyes cry.

For I shall speak with Grandfather Sky.

For he is the one I love the most.

My father, son and holy ghost.

For these feathers three,

He shall surely give to me...

The strength of ten thousand angels wings.

To set my spirit free.

For once was a time, when I did truly love,

My Viking Cherokee.

So here this story goes...

There were many times, I did come to place

His finest earthly possessions and attire,

Upon our old front porch.

As my Cherokee mother once told me,

there is a very fine line between love and hatred.

Often times it is near impossible, to quench the fire out.

From such an ever burning torch.

Many was the time,

We laid upon our marriage bed.

With a stone wall between us.

Was our love dead?

Once there was upon a time, I felt so proud.

To be his woman, to be his wife.

For he had chosen me, amidst the crowd.

His beautiful regalia, spoke so loud.

Unto my heart!

How could we ever bid farewell to part?

We were solely of one heart.

One soul entwined.

United by two.

His hand in mine, the morning dew.

Whereas two became as one.

Underneath the morning sun.

Now may I bid thee, fare thee well?

Go in peace now, like the morning dove.

My once so tall and handsome love.

No more tears in these eyes shall swell.

Go freely now, to your new drinking well.

Fare thee well, my brother.

For once long ago, you were my lover.

Now I call you friend.

Until we meet again.

Brava! This is a very good piece. I love your embracing Grandfather Sky... it is the best place to go in times like these. A very sad write, I hope you've done some healing since then. Excellent expression!

This is nice!

It is hard to let go of the love that we feel for another person - even though the actual loving relationship has already faded. I think that we tend to find comfort in relationships even when they are practically dead. The fear of moving onward to something better with someone else tends to make us see hope in something that is really hopeless. That is very painful emotionly. We stay with someone because it is comfortable, and yet, we are unhappy within ourselves.

We have to choose to venture beyond with hope for something better. We have to each take that risk - even if our journey leaves us alone for a while.

You write so well, Debilea. I am always impressed! =o)

I LOVE THIS. Like, really. I'm not sure words can describe my love for this poem. (: Your description is beautiful, breath-taking, and some of the best I've ever read. The love story was gorgeous and heart-breaking until the very end. There were many stanzas & lines that I loved - in particular "As my Cherokee mother once told me, / there is a very fine line between love and hatred. / Often times it is near impossible, to quench the fire out. / From such an ever burning torch." Spectacular. Great job with this, I'm really grateful for the chance to read it! ^___^

Such a very beautiful story poem
it's filled with longing in your heart
to your heart, and when your heart
does get to the top of that Cherokee Mountain
waters of tranquil will flow over the heart ledge
for all to see, we have seen that here with
the beautiful images your heart have drawn,
it's so beautiful, touched a very part of me as well!
One of your finest! It's so beautifully worded from beginning to end!

Wonderful piece of writing you have here. I really liked the language you used to write it, it adds to the emotion of the poem and the form in which you chose to write it. All and all, this was a great read; thank you for submitting it.
