The Memory Holder

The Memory Holder

A Poem by Debby Carlson

Forgetfulness has made its country your red
Mouth,

And I, the memory holder, cry.
I listen as you speak;
watch each change of expression
and try to decide
if red is your color.

I bleed life upon those lips
trying to give back
what was lost,
but the lines are blurred
  and I don't think

we can ever go home.
