Willow

Willow

A Poem by Debby Carlson

In a half light,

where west meets east

you came to me and we sat,
backs against my old willow,

Its weepings were we,

coated and sticky as branches,

reaching for each other

wrapped together,

Our nights met many mornings

within the graceful shadings,

marked by pinks hanging

along the river banks,

Our love, like the foliage greens

sheltered us,

until the cold stripped it,

we were the willow no more.
