I Am Exposed

I Am Exposed

A Poem by Ree

She stirred beside me, and I let her scent fall over me, tainting me forever

This is how we liked it

Slow, like the last leaves turning in autumn,

we finally found our way back to where we started from

Alone, inside a warm place,

With no vision for the future and no need for sleep,

A dream within a dream

is the dream within a womb

I opened my mouth and no one could hear me,

especially not you

And, every time she sighed

I realized more and more that I was not a part of her

Counting down the minutes to true anguish

I rolled over and pulled the sheet over my head, but it was too thin to keep the sun's dust away

I am exposed
