dreaming

dreaming

A Poem by Ashley

alarm clock interrupts her dreams again.

incessant beeping snapping her unwillingly back into reality.

mindless fairytales fade away,

but she'll put on that smile,

show the world what a good liar she is.

you've got the love that can save her,

you've got the heart that can change her,

but you won't open your eyes to see her.

they say:

"when you wish upon a star, your dreams come true"

well she's been wishing on that damn star for far too long,

and she's got nothing but tear stained cheeks,

and countless nights of dreams that are nothing more than figments of her imagination,

hopeless attempts at happiness that end with the coming of morning,

and the alarm as the clock strikes six.

my favorite part was the slant rhyme between smile and liar.

but it was good. a few things that flowed kind of weird (the damn threw off the rythm, i think) and maybe saying something like "dreaming only dreams" or something, in that 3rd to last (right?) line.

but i enjoyed it!
