seasons

A Poem by Ashley

your love is nothing more than the changing of the seasons.

it arrives with the glow of the springtime.
blossoms and grows until it has overcome the gloom,
and all one can do is admire its beauty,
and envy the light that it shines through this room.

it remains through the heat of the summer,
warming me from the outside in,
making me understand what this feels like,
you’re etching your memory into my skin.

it changes with the leaves in the fall.
bird’s songs are quieting, and colors are draining
when i need you, i try to look for the light of you love,
but outside this window it just won’t stop raining.

it dies out with the chill of winter.
you left me out in the cold with no chance to survive.
while your love’s burned out, mine fights to stay lit.
i still feel what i felt when your love first arrived.

but your love is nothing more than the changing of the seasons,
and this year is over, it’s time to move on.
so goodbye to you, and your months of reasons.
