(On the Receving End of) EnvyA Poem by dearashantiWrote this poem based on a recent real life experience as part of a seven deadly sins series I recently started writing.
I wanted the best for you.
If I had it, I would share, if you had it, you would hide. Congratulatory pats on my back while you spoke ill to those who thought less of both you and I. An enemy of your friend became someone you would confide in, banding together to pull me deeper into the dark abyss of gossip, lies and deceit. Copied my walk, my talk, the way I parted my hair. When did this become a competition of who could play me best? Intent to bring me down to uplift yourself, you plunged a knife deep into my heart while your “friends,” twisted theirs into my back and hid their hands. But I could see you clear as day, you green-eyed monster and your all consuming resentment. There was no way to conceal your disloyalty, now here I am, faced with the ultimate betrayal. © 2023 dearashantiAuthor's Note
