So Much Depends Upon

So Much Depends Upon

A Poem by Dearantlers

So much depends

Upon

A big green

Tractor

Spattered

With mud

And

Sitting in the

Field

The plow is hitched

Behind it

And the driver

Sits behind the wheel

As it slowly moves forward

Wheel in the furrow

Digging up the field

Author's Note

Dearantlers
I did this for school. There's a so much depends upon poem about a red wheel barrow that's by a pretty famous poet (forgot his name) and our teacher had us do one like that, so I just decided to put it on here. The form is really wierd, and where it says "the plow is hitched, ..." It starts on a part of the poem that's not part of the Red Wheel Barrow poem.

the original poet's name is william carlos williams.

this is rather clever, a very good take on the original, as it carries the same types of relationships. when i taught, i used this same exercise with my students. you should include the original poem, so your readers have a referance:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens.

here's my take on the same poem:

so much depends
upon

the red plastic
cup

filled with coca
cola

next to my chicken
mc nuggets

It's quite a stunted form of writing really, I quite like it. It's true how so much depends on that tractor. I did enjoy reading the way you expressed that, and so it made me realise so simply how important tractors are.

I LOVE poems like this where something so simple can be made beautiful. Well done, and not expected from an eighth grader!
