DecievedA Story by Deanne LeGrandA frightening paranormal experienceA little about me, I'm 17 and this story happened to me when I had just turned 16. I also get really intrigued by things that are creepy and scary, and I spend most of my time researching dark subjects. I still remember the day so vividly. I had just finished watching a horror movie and it was around 1 AM. I went back into my bedroom and shortly after hitting the bed, I fell asleep. Somewhere in the middle of the night I woke up to the sound of a soft thud. I opened my eyes as I was a pretty light sleeper. But still being as hazy as I was, I didn't think much of it and went back to sleep. I can only assume it was minutes later when I was again awaken, but this time by my sheets moving down as if someone were dragging it from the foot of my bed. I guess it's important to mention that the fan in my room isn't very strong so there's no way that it had anything to do with it. And my bed was against a wall and the door is right in front of it. Also my room is extremely dark so it's really hard to see anything. So anyways, this alarmed me and I was now sitting upright. I gazed around my room even though I wasn't sure of what to expect. However I wasn't wearing my glasses so it was hard to really see anything, but my heart began to beat faster. I've seen a lot of horror movies and the worst case scenarios were filling my head. Yet I managed to calm myself and convince myself that it was just the fan. So I went back to bed. However, as soon as my head hit the pillow, I heard the same soft thud I heard before. What happened next still haunts me to this day. I once again sat upright and as I did, I saw the faint outline of a dark figure standing at the foot of my bed. I was still trying to adjust to the darkness and the fact that I wasn't wearing my glasses, so I rubbed my eyes to get a better look. I was right, it was a figure. At this point, my heart had dropped to my stomach. I was petrified. My mind shut off for a second but I managed to realize I should turn my lamp on. While trembling, I reached over to my bedside lamp and fidgeted for the switch. Once it turned on, I looked back at the foot of my bed only surprised, yet extremely relieved, to see that it was just my mom. I felt like a hundred pounds were lifted of my shoulders. Though, she was just standing there staring at me with an expressionless face. Plus she was wearing a long, white night gown which made her look even weirder. I asked, "Mom, what are you doing?", "What do you want?" She continued to stare at me with that lifeless face and completely ignored my questions. I kept thinking, "What is she doing there, and why is she just standing and staring like that?" I was starting to get that uneasy feeling again and I got all nervous in my stomach. I again asked, "Mom?” She continued staring. Her eyes were glaring into mine. No one had ever stared at me that way and I almost felt like I was hypnotized or something. I knew something was really wrong, so I slowly turned to get out of my bed. As I did, her head, and only her head, turned to follow me. Since the door was close to the foot of my bed, that would mean I would have to go around her to get out of my room. But that was the only choice I had. I was afraid to call out to my dad because I was worried that it would trigger my mom or the figure, I should say, into doing something. So I slowly and cautiously walked around my room, walking with my back against the wall to avoid her. Again her head just turned and stared at me, while her body was still. It was the creepiest thing I had ever seen. It gave me chills and I was terrified. My heart was going to explode. Once I reached the door, I bolted out of there and ran into my parent’s room. I was horror-struck at what I saw next. My dad AND mom were both sound asleep. I frantically shook my dad telling him to come to my room because I saw mom there. He looked so confused and I don't blame him. But seeing the fear in my eyes, he knew it must have been serious. He ran into my room only to find that it was empty. I tried explaining what happened but my mom assured me she never left her room. I know this seems impossible but I know what I saw and I know I was neither imagining nor dreaming it. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what happened. I sometimes feel like it was some kind of ghost or demon, disguising itself as my own mother. Who knows what it would have done if I hadn't left my room that night, but I'm sure it wasn't a good intention. Needless to say, as sad as it is, I can never look at my mother the same way again. © 2016 Deanne LeGrandAuthor's Note
