Simply Put

Simply Put

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

If you must capture the moment

please leave off the flash

when taking this picture of my heart

so when it expresses the hope

the glare doesn’t hide the pain.

display it in a plain frame

so you don’t sugar coat

the details of the lines on my face.

When you insist on drawing a portrait

all I ask is it be done in charcoal, not colors

for I don’t want to be defined or stereotyped,

simply seen as a human with a face.

Perfect way to express the sentiments of being human without all the frills.

I used to draw professionally. And to capture the essence of one's soul...I felt it was best done in black and white. Don't know why. But color seems to add unecessary distraction. I let the light of the shadow construct the faces...it seemed to be the most effective way of embracing one's human skin. Without color..we are more equal...more the same. And this writing of yours reflects my opinion perfectly.

Exquisitely explained throughout. I can clearly follow the thought-process, the hard-driven message. I loved the "for I don't want to be defined or stereotyped." Simplicity is often the better choice; there is little room for judgement. The shift in the poem goes hand in hand with the first part up until "when you insist on drawing a portrait" because the flash of a camera is so fake compared to a hand-drawn portrait. It shows the reality in different ways, a personal way and an easy-out, less-personal way.
We're all just one face in a crowd of look-alikes. Well, well done!!

This is such a refreshing write. True to heart, and "felt" within!
Very nice ~ Jude :-)

Simplicity is as "real" as it gets..

"the glare doesn’t hide the pain.
display it in a plain frame
so you don’t sugar coat
the details of the lines on my face."~ Well penned....Love this concept.
