Thoughts In The Dark

For better worse the mind is more active in the still of the night.

 

Try running from your past

Too fast and you could wind up

Being history before

You get the chance to make one.

 

 

Under blue skies

We are one in the same;

Under cloudy skies

Some get wetter.

 

 

All it takes is

The diamond of your dreams

To cut through all

The glass novelties

That take up too much space.

we can live in the past and suffocate our present and future
punish ourselves and try to make up for something already done
or learn from it and become better; grow
we grow or we die
there's no standing still or going back in life
we either fade out, burn out or rust out
time runs out for all of us
the novelty repeats itself
the same story
the same space

The mind does become more active at night and I myself have suffered from its affects. Focus is harder and I can see how some would become more prone to defeatist thinking and depression. Great writing, you always sift through the fog and enlighten us.

this is great, i love it. the last stanza is by far my favorite because it flows flawlessly and i love the idea of "the diamonds of your dreams"- i can see the stars and sleep entwined with silence, dreams, just dreams. you are a great poet
