Sad, sad .. shadowy dreams and hope diluted. If i've understood this rightly, you're talking about the sense of abandonment and disillusionment caused by society in general; its turning on itself.
That lovely 'over the rainbow' dream ruined, ' Paid the price deleting dreams ~ With sticks ‘n’ stone schemes.
Every week there is a new one to listen to, blah blah blah... We are fed such a load of deceit from media, society, each other... and just when we think we will make it to the "Promised Land", they look at us and decide we don't deserve it after all...
Thought-provoking and deep, Dale...

Yes you are so correct, we are feed so much B.S. we might as well be mushrooms.
Thank you.
I hate to be like everybody else but it is true. The ending knocked my socks off. It was so sharp and cutting. A perfect ending to this sad poem. Your thoughts flow so poignantly in this piece. Thanks for sharing.
I was solemnly reading, thinking as I read, about as you say: "society's scapegoat", That really clicked in my head about how human society has become so narcissistic, greedy and selfish, sometimes with little concern for our fellow man.
Then the ending , it kind of rocked my boat, it was so unexpected after reading the 1st three paragraphs...... I loved it
Again, great ending line...you use simple visionary principles to create poetry, but you feed off others emotions instead of your own...make me feel something
"Following the yellow brick road
Won’t bring Dorothy home
At least not in one piece"
Indeed not. Refusing to look past the surface and act, put ourselves out, whether it's for ourselves or for others, can kill spiritually and physically. An excellent write.
It's better to be dead and cool than alive and uncool
