I Dare You

I Dare You

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

I dare you to come swimming

In the deep end of the pool

With me as the only lifeguard.

I dare you to look deep in my eyes

Seeing things no one else sees,

From all my hopes and dreams

To my darkest secrets.

I dare you to put your head on my shoulders

And tell me all your troubles and fears

Letting me help you even though

You’re strong enough to.

I dare you to hold my hand

Walking so close together

That no one else in the world

Can come between us.

I dare you to allow your heart

To get entangled in mine

Like our bodies do

Most every night.

I know I’m asking a lot of you dear

But if you’re ready and willing

To accept these challenges

Laid out before you

Then there’s one more thing

That I need to know your love is true

Simply stated… I dare you to dare me too.

Trust is often the hardest thing to give, and once again I think that "The Phoenix" has written a gem. My poems have been so bitter lately, but yours have this sweetness to them. Its nice, and I like the line, "I dare you to allow your heart to become entangled with mine." We all want to be entangled at the end of it all, don't we?

I started out expecting to read about confrontation of a different sort; and you took such a lovely turn with your next line. It sounds trite to say that there is a lot of passion and truth here; but there's no other way to say it.Format provides a nice separation of thoughts and kindly leads the reader softly to the end. The 'voice' is soft and compelling, full of wanting--searching. I really enjoyed this.

Daring is a big proposition, and the biggest twist, to dare and be dared, great read Dale!

Sigh, I know why O invited me to read this poem, this is a lovely peice of literature, certainly going into my all time favourites. Its thoughtful, well written, and it places the ball in her court, and your job is done.

You said. "I dare you to dare me" :)

well, I dare you to write lovely peices.

from what i've read of your stuff, you have this consistency with starting off poems amazingly well.

"I dare you
to come swimming
in the deep end of the pool
with no one else around
and me as the only lifeguard. "

that, was something. i cannot put my finger on it, but i just love that. you expect something very serious and daunting when you see the "I dare you" line, but then, to come swimming. i love that whole stanza, amazing.
