The Ballad Of A Haunted House

The Ballad Of A Haunted House

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

The cobwebs that decorate

These abandoned corridors

Catch the echoes

Before they shatter

Like stained glass

Leaving stone cold walls

Heartbreaking red.

Animated spirits

Tell the tales

Of the salty mascara

That brings color

To once lifeless tiles.

Arched ceilings

No worse for wear

Except for a few cracks

Out of neglect

Cause four eyes

Were always looking down…

Two in hate,

Two in pain.

Now abandoned

Like the child without

A headstone

As heaven and hell

Gain a soul

This house seeks mercy

In the form of

A wrecking ball.

I love love love the way you describe this house. It's subtle and yet so full of imagery.

I don't find it creepy; it's a sad house but you are definitely depicting what really goes on in an abandoned house once so full of Energies!

Awesome.... :)

Interesting point of view. This is scary in that it could be lots of broken and abusive homes. If only the walls could talk, right? Well written!

I like them old houses. Can create great stories by the kids in the neighborhood. I like the description of the old house. When we are young. We need things to expand our imagination. A outstanding poem. Thank you.

I really like this Dale... that the house is the shell and a victim of a loveless relationship like a child of the same union. There is more here then what is seen with the first read. The second time I read it, it grew and I began to see more and I think you could really develop this into a short story!

These abandoned corridors
Catch the echoes
Before they shatter
Like stained glass

Love these lines! However in this stanza...

Arched ceilings
No worse for wear
Except for a few cracks
Out of neglect
Cause four eyes
Were always looking down…
Two in hate,
Two in pain.

I had a little trouble with this stanza... I didn't really know what you were trying to say here with the "Cause four eyes were always looking down." It seemed to me like it should have been two stanzas instead of one? I don't know...just my thought on it. Other then that I really enjoyed it and I am glad you are getting in spirit already for your favorite holiday! :)
