Mechanical Rhythms

Mechanical Rhythms

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

The heart beats to a rhythm

But not always the same one.

The pace depends on the feeling

Or emotions flowing through it.

Poetry for me is emotions

In its purest form

So why taint it with

Rules and regulations.

I can only be me

So when I speak in verse

Forget the mechanical rhythms,

I’ll leave that to the text books.

Yes! I leave it to the textbooks too. Critics are afraid of something different. They are afraid that all their rules will suddenly bend in the sight of NEW talent. New styles are what art is all about. You can't teach someone how to paint with a text book!

Cool piece Rock and Roll Cowboy. Great name by the way hahaha.

Very Good. If we all do things the same way there would not be anything different in the world. I am glad that you can express yourself and be yourself as you do it. More people need to learn to be themselves and quit trying to copy off of their neighbor.

You express so well the freedom of poetry and poets to let the words flow.. as they are, without restrictions... Profound words that can speak for themselves in whatever form we find them. Reminds me of the scene in Dead Poet's Society when they tear out the "measurement" guide from their books. Excellent write and so true!

Your poetry is wonderful and always flows from your heart, and soul....which is the only thing that matters.

Dale, if everyone followed the textbook approach to writing poerty, there wouldn't be any new styles or creative impulses, which makes someone, as a writer. Dead poetry is one without the expression of any heartfelt feelings. Sorry, but your writing has too much soul and emotion, to be dead. Better luck on the death part in the next century. Thanks for sharing your feelings about poetry. :)
