Dysfunctional Tree (Just Ask The Shadow)

Dysfunctional Tree (Just Ask The Shadow)

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

So I get you fearing

         Only the dead of night

Guess you never heard of

          A trick of the light.

Using the sun as a blinder

         From what hold true

This is the weakness

         I’ll use against you.

Thinking that your reflection

         Is a form of security

Not seeing the dirt on the mirror

As a symbolic loss of purity.

Even the purest of blood

         Is tainted by evil

Just look into the mystery

         Of the family will.

This ancient art of illusion

         Is what created Genesis

Allowing mankind to believe

         Death is riding a Pegasus.

Just keep believing you’re safe

         In the clearing of daytime

For the shadow of that genetic tree

         Highlights a mental crime.

This is really interesting. My interpration is that is about somebody who is all smiles and false pretenses, pretending everything is perfect, making themselves look the part, but its a facade. Something is askew with their family. Its could be just a general unhappiness or something way more sinister. You've got some really great lines in there too:

Thinking that your reflection
Is a form of security
Not seeing the dirt on the mirror
As a symbolic loss of purity

and

Just keep believing you're safe
In the clearing of daytime
For the shadow of that genetic tree
Highlights a mental crime

Really great job on this piece. It the type that has so many levels we might never understand.

another cool poem, telling it like it is ...I like that! Noone is beyond retribution and those who portray themselves as better than others will have a hefty fall indeed..

There's quite a few nuts in my family tree...lol I'm just hoping I'm the sturdier tough like the walnut instead of a soft-shelled pecan. As for all the "evil" bit, I believe no man is good. God is good and when we are conformed to the image of the Spirit of God, then we shall be good. But I do not believe it is possible in the flesh (contrary to the holier than thou preachers out there). We are human beings, with all the faults and flaws that our nature implies. No man is perfect and those that think they are need to take a long, hard look in the mirror. Good writing Dale.

wow this is very deep and quite profound . The title say a lot as does this piece. Your phrasing is impeccable. this is thought provoking and interesting...that ending unbelievable...magnificent writing. I can't believe I missed this the first time around...i must have been away from here at that time...

We have to make sure that we don't live in a fantasy world all the time. We have to take a deep look around us and see what is really happening. That is what this poem says to me. Take a look in the mirror at who we really are. Not just see the outside image but the one that lies beneath the skins surface. This is a deep poem about how we have false perceptions of ourselves and other people. Great write.

This is a really interesting piece. Really like the way it was written.
To me it seemed as if your not as perfect as you think you are,
we all have flaws, some we can't help, like what we inherit,
so maybe we shouldn't ignore the truth about ourselves. Not be blind
to our truths. That's what your most wonderful poem here spoke to me!

I'm not even going to try and understand this. Maybe later. ^^

But I loved it. Really loved it. Although, when I tried reading it aloud, I couldn't quite find the right rhythm.
But it is obvious that you put a lot of thought into this poem. Excellent job!

A different Dale here, different in extreme depth, questioning and answering! I've read this three times and find nudges of thought each time ..

'Guess you never heard of ~ A trick of the light. ' Is that a distortion of what or who you are?
'Just look into the mystery ~ Of the family will.' Past influences the present, always a chance of some some blot in the family line.
' This ancient art of illusion ~ Is what created Genesis ~ Allowing mankind to believe ~ Death is riding a Pegasus. ' We believe we're as good in spirit as the next man but our line can throw up flaws which we need accept as being part of us.

'Not sure if I've got it right but that's what makes this such a fine piece of writing, technically and in content .. makes me think, makes me want to come back to it.
