My Beating Heart

My Beating Heart

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Be still my beating heart

Don’t make a sound

For if we are heard

By those who follow

We are assured

To never find

The rhythm of life again.

Be careful my beating heart

And keep it down

For now we must let

The silence be our friend

So we can learn

From the sounds of love

Shattering around us.

Be gentle my beating heart

When whispering

To those you care about

Because too many times

Before your irregular beat

Was tou much

For them to understand.

Oh be still my beating heart

For maybe if we play dead

Then we might just live forever.

The power, or subtle nature of a beating heart may surely determine the fate of a lover's dream. Be still, or surge on, or refrain from being irregular in action....so many thoughts to ponder in your write of love!
Well thought out, and written!!

I like the lines:

Be still my gentle heart
when whispering to those
you care about

This is such a lovely thought!

Very nice. The fear we have in letting others know how we feel.
Exposure can be painful if rejection results.
Like the words you used to desribe this.

Excellent write.

Wow. This is stunning! A heart is a fragile thing and you point that out using such creative metphors!

"The silence be our friend
So we can learn
From the sounds of love
Shattering around us."

I love the idea that our hearts should keep their love quiet as other relationships and hearts fail around them. If they whisper, they can make it.
So many things I could describe! I'll leave it at that and say again this is amazing.

I love the end, like so many things. We die to our dreams and values so we can embrace their shadow..all the while forfeiting the day. Nice, t.

I could almost hear the words whispering...trying to stay as quiet as possible so as to not be heard. I love the last stanza in particular,

oh be still my beating heart
for maybe if we play dead
then we might just live forever

I like the concept of your heart giving you away. My heart has done that many times, my emotions open and too much for some people. This is a very unique piece that could mean so much to so many people. Great write!

WOW! that was a great poem. excellent. the flow, the word play, everything. i know for sure my beating heart has gotten me into trouble at times. esp when it beat for a man whose heart was not beating the same rhythm for me. i would have loved to do a collab with you on this poem. it's someting i would have been able to write well.

What a great ending stanza!!! Fabulously original and just beautiful in content Dale. At times you are too afraid to breathe lest the feeling loses momentum...
I loved this, truly inspiring :-)

I would have to agree with Dezaraye, it does have a touch of Mr. Poe. It is short, sweet and very well written. I love heart felt poetry, thank you for sharing.
