The Road

The Road

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Maybe I am a little to philosophical today. to much time to think I guess.

"

It is times like this that I am cursed

With too much time on my hands.

To contemplate life’s pains,

Love’s scars,

And laughter’s short lived remedy.

I am left to wonder why

I feel free to go anywhere

Still I never seem to belong.

Was I born in the wrong era?

Is father time really human?

As I look down the road watching

It get smaller and smaller

Till it is nothing and I wonder,

Is that a symbol for how life really is?

What of this road less traveled?

Sure you may find more adventures

And accolades, but at what cost?

Ending up lonely.

Everyday there is a price we pay

To travel down that road…

In the light of day it is easier

To know where we go

And let everyone know who you are

At the risk of getting burned.

Under the cloak of night

You can avoid the dangers around

At the cost of not enjoying

What is in front of your eyes

Or not really being.

Life’s journey has many ironies

That makes fate versus free will

A nonstop debate.

One thing is for certain,

To travel it with someone in your heart

To share it

Is to travel that road paved.

I'm sure this is so cliche you'll want to spit, but it reminds me of the classic ... "Two road diverged in a road and I took the one less travelled by and that has made all the difference."

There are so many roads in life. Some are easier than others and some are more painful. But I believe that the rewards are fair and just when you get to the end. Sometimes, it just takes forever to get there. I find myself on a dirt road and while it may be softer, it's harder on my feet. The rocks and bumps and mud keep me struggling. Maybe someday it will be worth it ... and maybe someday it won't be. I'd sure like a paved section!

This is a beautiful piece. I love your questions. I ask things like that all the time. I'm naturally curious. I often feel that I was born in the wrong era as well. It's a curious feeling. Thanks for sharing this. I'm glad I read it today.

One more question ... why DO bugs stick to the ceiling?

This is beautiful...it makes you think that maybe, just maybe through it all -all the pain and loneliness and confusion there is something that is there that makes life worth living for. Love certainly is one of those rare things that makes life beautiful.

This is such a deep and thoughtful piece of writing. I absolutely love the philosophy and the plot behind this.
I was just reading a book by Brain L Weiss a minute before when I read this poem, thus I was already in that mood and the poem enhanced that feel to a great extend indeed.
"Was I born in the wrong era?
Is father time really human?
As I look down the road watching
It get smaller and smaller" - These lines certainly has to be my favorite. There is just so much in it that everyone of us can relate themselves to it...
Great work :)
Thanks a lot for sharing it here

What a deep poem, there are so many ways the words can be perceived it all depends on how you want to read between the lines and perceive the words. Good job!

To travel down that road
In the light of day it is easier
To know where we go
And let everyone know who you are
At the risk of getting burned.
Under the cloak of night
You can avoid the dangers around
At the cost of not enjoying
What is in front of your eyes
Or not really being.

This is a deep write that so many of us can relate. To me these lines say that one could close their heart off "Under the cloak of night" for fear of being hurt. However, they are not really going to enjoy the journey as much as traveling by day light and allowing themselves to give and receive love freely. Enjoyable read!

You never cease to amaze me with the enlightment of your words.
Your words light up a dark galaxy. This powerful and profound piece
brings an oportunity with it for some serious thought.
You touch our hearts with your words, my friend.

Another favorite.

I really liked this! It gave thought to the many paths we take and how hard the journey can be.. Loved the ending the most. For no matter how hard it is, or the pebbles of life, as I call them, get in our way, with someone beside us it's not that bad..

Great piece my friend.

Everyone else has beat me to saying profound words in high praise for your deep thoughts here...
so i will dumb down and say, the paved road is hard on the feet...i prefer dirt, soft, can sink your toes into it. if its wet you can feel it squish between your toes...it kinda sticks there like good friends do through tough times....:)

This is a profoundly expressive write, taking us into a place of deep reflection. You ask the questions that we should be asking... that we must ask if we are to grasp the meaning and purpose of our lives. This is so well done and so lifting as you tell of the shared journey.
