Diamond Heart

  

Crystallized fantasies form

A shiny layer of dreams

Around a trusting heart

Giving it the illusion

It’s as hard as a diamond.

It’s meant to be protection

Yet the glare is leaving

The soul blinded to the truth.

When the sands of time run out

Life continues to go on

Just the past is buried like treasure.

That’s when the heart

Must use those sparkles

To ignite eternity like a comet

Streaking cross the sky.

The soul will just have to

Rely on blind faith

And see life in a new way

Or lose this game of hide and seek

To the grim reaper…

Though the ultimate fantasy is death

When you know the secret to living.

wow i love this one. it was the word 'diamond' in the title that attracted me first, diamonds fascinate me (i know such a girl thing). sparkly, rainbow-colored, beautiful (& sadly too expensive for me to buy, but i do have 2, my old wedding ring & my newer engagement ring that i don't wear but still love to look at them lol). i love how you use 'diamond' for its strength & hardness here & its sparkly effect is blind the soul. those last 2 lines are brilliant: dark, bleak, & brutally honest. a gorgeous write!!

very nicely thought out and presented.... to drop the walls of protection allows love and joy to come through, but also the risk of pain and disappointment... not always an easy choice, but the risk is worth letting the comet fly...
