Humanity

Humanity

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Beneath the street lights,

Under the sign that reads

“Jesus saves”

Sits a girl scared and alone

With nowhere to run and hide.

Jaded in youth by neglect and abuse,

Now it has come to this

Because no one would listen.

She’ll sell her soul to make a buck

As her chance for happiness

Is washed down the gutter.

The world throws away

Another child,

Too wrapped up in itself to care.

Humanity is not to blame,

It’s the human race forgetting the meaning.

I love this piece. It is written with so much insight. The future of a lot of children in the world today is no better than that of a helpless litter of kittens or puppies left unattended among the wild beasts. We are the beast. You can probably change the definition of human to: ancient term used to describe an upright primate that at one time cared about it's offspring. There is no tugging at the heart strings with abused children. If you truly care, as this magnificent work shows you do, it rips your heart right out of your chest. This is such a visual writting that you can see the young girl huddled alone in the night. God bless you on this piece.

Great insight, Dale. The last two lines are perfectly woven together. "Humanity" is usually just a platitude. You assigned it a persona!

You got that right...everyone has their head on Jesus and preaching his word to get attention and power but they are not doing anything about it....(behaving like him)

Oh, this one breaks my heart. You wrote this well. I love how you started it and the ending is true and sad... excellent...

This is a sad scene that you paint here my friend. When living in big cities you see things that I don't. I live in town that isn't tiny but it is far from big. I have not seen a scene like this in my 31 years but I did however go to Mexico once and saw children selling chiclets to make money for their families. Every time I saw a child selling chiclets I bought some. This world is full of scenes, and pictures that hurt our hearts. This poem is one in which others should read. It is one that makes you take a look deep inside yourself and say how did I become the kind of person that I am today. Great write.

This happens all too often, and yes the human race does forget people....they are only a commodity in this consumer driven world. Lizanne hit the nail with her comments.
Great write, all the way around!

Excellent! Straight to the point and so true.
"The world throws away/ Another child"
We seem to have a knack for doing just that in so many ways. Time's long past due to wake up and take care of who and what needs tending to.

I returned to read again.......it was 7 months ago that I commented and unfortunately, the situation still exists. Probably will for a while until us humans "get it".

So sad and so real, we turn our head, afraid to see and feel, the reality is so painful, we are a society of cowards, shame on us. My views. Thank you sweetie for sharing a great write as always. God Bless
