The Hardest Part Is The Night

The Hardest Part Is The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

As the sun runs away

From another day

Leaving the sky's soul black

The time I dread is here

For it is a portal to

The lonely side of my soul.

Where stars remind me

There is too much distance

Between me and you…

And moonbeams accentuate

The shadows that

Play tag with my heart.

Teasing it with hidden

Thoughts beneath

Their cold smoke and mirror

Existence to my lonesome reality

Whose bite is far worse

Then the bark killing the silence.

Yet no matter how isolated

The witching hour

Bestows upon my incomplete heart

I will ride out

My time in purgatory

Even if it means dying alone.

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

When the clock strikes midnight

I’d rather play

Solitaire with my soul

Cause I can’t be with someone

Just to be there

Even though…

The hardest part is the night.

WOW!! your poetry really amazes me,, I absolutley enjoy reading what
you write,, it's so clear to the eyes, and written with such passion,
you have a great talent and I love your style of writing, two parts are
my favorites:

For I could never just be

With a nameless face

That has no mind of their own

Or a heart of stone

Just for the pleasure

Of having someone to hold.

and.........

Cause I can't be with someone

Just to be there

I love it!! you just wont take anyone to just to have someone, the intelect and
stimulation of the mind that meshes with yours is essential!! great work!!

Great write Cowboy. I write on this theme a lot, but enjoyed your introduction of the soul here. "I’d rather play/Solitaire with my soul/Cause I can’t be with someone/Just to be there." Words of wisdom from experience.

I love this cowboy...there are some great lines here.
I think a lot of people may feel that way...the night is
the loneliest part of being a lone. But, it sounds like you
will not give up even your own soul for the company...like
you are fighting with the night.

Great write!

I feel like this every day and every night. The poem speaks volumes to me. I was just thinking the other day I am tired of being alone but there truly is only one person I want to hold so I would rather not have anyone then pretend to love someone else. You have no idea how deep this poem speaks to me. This poem is how my soul feels. You writing this creative master piece of poetry is a little comforting to me for it say I am not the only person who would rather suffer loneliness than to hold some one you don't love deeply.

There is so much deep thought, you are fueled with so much creativity. Loved the metaphors and imagery you used in the poem. Pain personified so well! Great work!!

Yes, you have nailed it!! Dead on, Bulls-eye, Give that man a prize. As sad as this poem is, it is true. I would rather be alone, than settle for that soul-less pair of arms. You wrote a heartfelt piece here Dale. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Oh cowboy, this was beautifully written. So heartfelt...I love this line....

The time I dread is here / For it is a portal to / The lonely side of my soul.'

A very sad, but amazing expression!!! I loved it!

I should have read this during the day, when it's easier to be alone. But I can't say I didn't know what I was getting into when I started. Your poems have the power to instill emotions just from reading them.

Mesmerizing write...the feeling of loneliness and longing are depressing emotions but you portray them so beautifully. My favorite verse is...

Where stars remind me

There is too much distance

Between me and you...

And moonbeams accentuate

The shadows that

Play tag with my heart.

I just love the way it sounds. Brilliant write...

Ah, its sad and full of longing, but not for just anyone. Its got to be that someone special. Its better to be alone than with someone that is all wrong. Wonderful job. I thought it had a real nice flow to it.
