Children Of The Night

Children Of The Night

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

In this midnight masquerade

Secrets are hidden

On the dark side of the moon

While the bold side

Looks down upon me with a smile,

Or is it a snicker?

Can he see the real me?

The one who walks amongst

The down and out using the shadows

As a blanket of security,

So I can understand

Why they find the blue skies

A curse born of sin.

Or does he see me as One

Who should remain in the dark

Cause my eyes were tainted

By the nocturnal side of human nature

Therefore being poisoned

By impurities that society heeds.

Could the moon be so blinded

By what the sun reflects on him?

I think not…

              Or why else

Would he gravitate here

Every night to turn negative light

Into a positive glow

So the children of the night

Have a reason to believe.

Maybe I am better off

Staying here,

With the man in the moon

For his wisdom

Far out weighs

Any superficial intelligence

The sun can cast light upon.

Wow! This was such a great write! It's so powerful. My favorite parts were,
"As a blanket of security,
So I can understand
Why they find the blue skies
A curse born of sin."

and

"I think not
Or why else
Would he gravitate here
Every night to turn negative light
Into a positive glow"

Oo this was very interesting. Great vocab here. You always know just where to put the right words I love it. I would have to say, my favorite stanza is this one here...

"As a blanket of security,
So I can understand
Why they find the blue skies
A curse born of sin."

Great simile on the first line
Thanks for the read :)

I'm torn between seeing this as the dark side of humanity who live their lives in the night...the children who are runaways, woman who sell themselves for money, the homeless, the criminal;

OR is this about one of your many flights of fancy into vampires, etc.

I've seen you write about both subjects and can't figure out which one this is
but either way its an intriguing poem with lots of depth!

Such a depth we can find in the darkness, in our hearts, our minds, our souls... Powerful and profound, moving us away from the expected to what lies beyond expectation... (Was listening to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill while reviewing, which seemed appropriate... :)

I find this to be a philosophical reflection of the omnipresent moon. Often people uphold the sun as a positive energy source, a representation of a new day's journey, etc and the moon as a cold, ominous spectator adding nothing but shadows to darkness. But here you question, even respect the moon's integrity and wisdom for guidance. The tone even seems to mock the sun. Or perhaps I'm way off on my interpretation. However, this poem holds a lot of depth and character.

"Maybe I am better off
Staying here,
With the man in the moon
For his wisdom
Far out weighs
Any superficial intelligence
The sun can cast light upon." ~ Nice finality.
