Life's Journey Is More Than Meets The Eye

Life's Journey Is More Than Meets The Eye

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

In this wondrous journey of life

It is better to walk a dirt road...

For those that glide down paved streets

Never truly understand the meaning of home.

Often we walk a path with blinders

Ignoring the river we walk beside

If we just take the time to skip a stone across

we could appreciate the miracle of the ripples.

When the sky crashes down on you

Stop seeing it as a dream being crushed.

Rather, the soul-searching revelation

As the impossible is never out of reach.

That giant hole in the middle of the road

Isn’t as dark and empty deep as it seems.

In reality it’s a reason to leap.

So for a moment you can experience flying.

When you hit a dead end

Don’t ever think of it as over.

Look upon it as just another adventure

Off the beaten path...

              Into neverland.

This is a little more then you would at first think it is..I loved the ending, I've been to nowhere but i've never been to never land.. thank you, the journey begins with one footsteps and ends with one footstep, its where those footsteps take us that are important, thank you to for reminding in the frustation of sliding down a hill that the impossible is never out of reach.. good words, i'm glad i've read them.

Oh yeah, how often do we travel hundreds of miles on the expressway (of life) without noticing the beautiful, peaceful and fulfilling landscapes - flying by those feelings of belonging and home ... foolishly still thinking it's the interstate that will bring us the fastest to ... ourselves ...

Very deep and touching.

Absolutely beautiful, Dale.
So many life lessons for us all within these lines. I am really quite blown away by this. This is exactly what I needed to read this evening. Thank you for this wonderful poem:-)

"For those that glide down paved streets/Never truly understand the meaning of home" - very, very true. I have lived a life with many hardships in it, and it seems almost a travesty that others often float through their life without a trouble, but this leaves them without the understanding and appreciation that those of us who have had some hard times possess

You did well Dale, you are capable of such good thoughts and I believe that writers could not express themselves in this way unless they have fallen into that deep and dark hole a few times.
Some do seem to ride on the crest of a wave juggling caviar in one hand and a glass of champers in the other, but these are the people who jump out of buildings when the stock market crashes instead of learning to eat beans out of a can...no depth to their thoughts...life can be as rough as bags, but those who have been around the block a couple of times deal with it and move on don't they?
There are times when life kicks us in the arse and each time we wallow in the pain we become weaker.
I would say that you have made your point clearly and with deliberation...KUDOS from me :-)

This was so inspirational! (Much like the last 20 mins of Horton Hears A Who, lol.) I like how you flipped all the bad things in life to be something positive and new and challenging. One of my favorite stanzas:

"That giant hole in the middle of the road
Isn't as dark and empty deep as it seems.
In reality it's a reason to leap.
So for a moment you can experience flying."

Just so uplifting! Makes me feel like I should be able to do anything.
And I really love how you ended it with:

"Into neverland." Neverland is such a magical place and you make the reader feel as if it's a place that's easy to get to. Awesome piece :]

This was an excellent piece. Very well written. I liked the message behind this as well. Never give up. Life will always throw things at you but it does not mean it's over.

Hi Dale,

Great work, very inspiring. Live today and if you get lost try another route. Excellent. Theses are words I need to live by. I've only been seeing life die for me instead of living today.

Thanks for sharing this with me.
