Sweet Mother Mercy

Sweet Mother Mercy

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Sweet mother mercy

Shows none at first

Till in the vortex of time

She grants you forgiveness

Not as a blessing but

More of a curse.

For she knows

The toxic fumes

That escape the gates

To your soul

Will also poison the heart

That keeps you

Walking the earth.

Showing tough love

She can only pray

That the road to nowhere

Leads to the truth of life.

short and sweet.

I like the personification used in this poem, it makes a very strong image and lets the reader feel free to interpret the poem however they choose..I like how you clouded the meaning by not bluntly saying 'this is what the poem is about'. It leaves it up to the reader to make connections and think for themselves. As a writer it can sometimes be hard to know what is 'going to far' with metaphors, making sure the reader understands your meaning and all. This is touching and beautiful, and you did a good job. The vagueness of the theme fits the style.

It's a tough road, life is, but along the way there are some spectacular sights! Truth is everywhere; we just need to look for the signs along the road! :)

Just the title alone sucked me in. Really neat poem with strong rhyme. The last line is off center.

i like the image of a merciful mother being harsh and tough. she gives me hope even though salvation is not easily granted.
