When You Speak

When You Speak

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

When you speak of the future

I feel the warmth of a sunrise.

When you speak of love

I feel my heart growing stronger

When you speak of loss

I feel teardrops drench my soul

When you speak of life

I feel a seed of growth in my mind

When you speak of hope

I feel humanity smiling upon me.

When you speak I hear

Every single syllable

Cause when you speak

I feel sincerity grace my world.

So when you speak

I learn more of who I am

And every time I hear you speak

I’m a better man for listening.

This is a brilliant piece of work, and somewhat Shakespearean. Sonnet 130 comes to mind - have a read if you haven't all ready ;)
This line stands out for me:
"When you speak of loss
I feel teardrops drench my soul" because the speaker's reaction is almost an overreaction.. melodramatic if you will. But with the final line of the last stanza: "I'm a better man for listening", I feel that the speaker has grown a little more mature and has learnt to control his feelings. Whatever the original intention though, well done and keep it up!

The last two stanzas are certainly my favorite. You definitely have a gift for melting a woman's heart. The piece has a gentle and loving tone to it. Very nice, indeed.

Dale this is so beautiful and sooooooooooo true. Communication, the art of talking with each other, saying what we feel and mean, saying it clearly, listening to what the other says and making sure that we're hearing it accurately, is by all indication the skill most essential for creating and maintaining a loving relationship. It is very important that we LISTEN and I feel that is what this poem is saying , that if we really listen to what the other person is saying we will feel their words and we get a better understanding of the person we are listening to.
Very beautiful and thoughtful poem Dale.

This is just lovely Dale. When she laughs, you laugh. When she cries, you cry. You feel her warmth in everything that you do because you love her. She is your sunrise, the strength of your heart, your growth as an individual.

One soul nurtures the other. I really enjoy the last two stanzas, and I hope that the one I love feels this way about me. That's what your piece does to the reader. It make us realize the very essence of love and dedication. How wonderful to value someone such as you describe. Incredible.

We women appreciate a man who understands the reciprocal nature of a healthy and loving relationship. She makes you a better man and no doubt you would make her a better woman. Such is the way it should be.

I am not surprised by the beautiful comments that were left here for you. Look, I came back again and it is soooooooo in my favorites! :)
