Cheers My Dear

Cheers My Dear

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

I took the challenge of my friend Kim(Kit Kat) to compare alcohol to love.

"

I raise my glass to you

As I stare into your eyes

Realizing they are more

Crystal clear than my glass.

Now I see that my feelings for you

Are far more important

Then what’s in this glass.

Suddenly this hundred proof

Has zero appeal when compared

To this woman in my life.

For when I get high on you

My nights are spent in heaven

Instead of an intoxicating hell.

So bottoms up as I

Pour it down the drain

For now I can’t face my fears

Standing next to you

Instead of lying in the gutter

With the sewage I was becoming.

So cheers my dear

For your love has put the bottle

Of whiskey on the shelf

To collect dust

Like all the bad memories

Of my past.

Thank you, Dale, for briefs moments of clarity. I pray to a God I can't even believe in that they last. Love is always much more important than a brief escape into the bottle. While I can't do this for him, I must do this for me. Pray for strength. :)

Good, throw out the bad, and start anew. This seems like a personal
poem, something close to you. I love the way you really put all yourself
in your words. AD

Oh!This is simply beautiful, but you know what I found it sad, I don't know why-may be I'm in sad mood today.
I don't know that but I know one thing that this is purely a beautiful poem.

Dale this has touched home. I come second to Bacardi Lemon, I wish eyes would see me as more appealing. I have to print this and share it. This is an excellent write.

Nice one Dale, great message and well formed prose. I love the idea of this, as alcohol causes so many family and relationship breakups. You have pointed out succinctly that people and love are more important than addictions. Great job...uplifting.

Very cool write. I like the way you've put it on the shelf to collect dust. That is where all bad memories should go.

All...what an awesome way to say it. You are so talented, my friend.

amen. this is a strong poem. That sobering realization (no pun intended) when we stare down the risk. Well done. So nice to be back at the cafe, reading poems instead of the rants of disgruntled pseudopolitical bloggers.
