The Signs

The Signs

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Howling winds

Slap the bitter cold across

My face

With the reality

I should have seen

Like the dirt

That blew in my eye.

Boots strike concrete

As I walk this path

With a sound

I begin to recognize

But finally hear

What it’s been

Telling me all along.

I view the blue sky

And begin to feel

A strange connection

Like we are

One in the same

Then I see

The similarities.

                            Suddenly all the signs

Becomes one enigma

Telling me where my destiny lies.

Great write! It got a wonderful rhythm - it looks even somewhat like a song to me.

Oh, there are so many road signs and direction shields. They tell us which road to take to get to our destination, but don't tell about the state of the road nor about how many sharp and bad curves lie ahead. Such we'll learn only gradually on our journey, and are not always prepared for the danger lurking on the way...

-- Howling winds

-- Slap the bitter cold across

-- My face

-- With the reality

-- I should have seen

-- Like the dirt

-- That blew in my eye.

I especially like this stanza. Great work!

Striking methaphors make this piece flow nicely. To finally see, and hear all along what you have known in your spirit. Insight is a powerful thing. ~ Jude :-)

I enjoyed reading your poem.
It is deep and powerful.

Howling winds
Slap the bitter cold across
My face
With the reality
I should have seen
Like the dirt
That blew in my eye.

I really like these lines, they are so powerful and I felt it like walking in that wind myself

Moments like these are life changing. They give you pause and appreciation. There is a time when all seems lost and then you find yourself here, in this moment, able to see your way again. Another great write.

It sounds like you've had a "spiritual slap" so to speak.

I deeply feel that there are signs around us all the time,
but we just don't take time to notice them. The ones that
do notice them are the the special ones:).
