Personal Armageddon

Personal Armageddon

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Deep from the core

Of my volatile brain

Erupt melancholy thoughts

Spilling all over those in my life

Burning some of them to ashes.

From the darkest shadows

In the chambers of my heart

Lurk monsters never seen

But all too often heard

Scaring away those I love.

Within the vortex

Of my aged intellect

Emerge sentimental ideas

To make loved ones feel

As special as they make me feel.

Flowing through my veins

From a heart so true

Is a complete devotion

For all those who

Have always given in kind.

Though mind and heart

Have so much in common

Trying to do what is right

And sometimes doing wrong

With the best of intensions

The relationship between the two

Is like a personal Armageddon

Every day!!

It is said we hurt the ones we love the most, but I think it is more because of the disappointment one might feel after being hurt. But then again without that hurt, that pain, how would we know true love? Love and hate, pleasure and pain, they are both two sides of the same coin. You can not have one without the other.

We all have moments of resentment and disappointments.

Great writing.

It's almost unbelievable that women and men are supposed to somehow be paired together with such different views of the world, ways of expressing thoughts, etc. Your poem shows that fights in relationships are often just simple misunderstandings between sexes...or at least that's what I got out of it. haha.

I love the use of figurative language, especially the similes.

"Deep from the core

Of my volatile brain

Erupt melancholy thoughts" I love these lines: they seem to invoke a lot of meaning.

Some how, "Can't teach an old dog new tricks", comes to mind when I read this.

I feel this is about forgiveness, the fact that we want to offer or accept forgiveness, trying to make peace with the past but pride gets in the way. This is the monster lurking in the shadows, and the constant struggle from what we know we should do, from what actually occurs.

Thanks for the invite!

I hope this is tongue-in-cheek? A personal Armageddon sounds serious! I think we all tend to push people away rather than draw them in as we should. We do this almost without knowing and then wonder what went wrong. It is a part of human nature I don't like because people do feel hurt and unloved.
Your word choice is excellent here Dale; it rolls beautifully...
Kudos for the personal nature of the write.

Oh, this is such a great poem it's scarring me. I mean I love it so much I keep re-reading it and it makes mesad because technically I have no time, but I can't just break away from it. I LOVE IT DALE! Sad and personal but universal and amazing. I love it! ^^

An epiphany springs up from the confession which leads to a dynamic between tenderness and something dark and mysterious. Wonderful poem.
