From The Whiskey To The Grey

From The Whiskey To The Grey

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Whiskey memories breathe

down your inflamed throat,

The smell is a welcome relief

to your dying wish.

The corner offers dark sanctuary

from love and pain

allowing you to pass judgment

on those already condemned.

Reluctant veins accept

the pending destruction

that keeps them alive

but hardens the heart.

Spiraling madness becomes the answer

to all those questions unasked

but haunt the soul long enough

to make the spirit gray.

Why do I feel like I've watched so many people I love live this life? So touching. So sad, but a truth.

I have been here. I've traveled that frightening road... luckily, I made it out, rather unscathed (except for the fuzzy memories). You put me there, again, in those moments - that's how well this piece is written.

Heh... a song I used to sing quite often as of last November. Luckily, my lyrics got better... unlike the one you write about. Bravo my darling cowboy! Another masterpiece! (Is this an old one? It seems familiar, but it might just be the photo).

Sound like a tale about my beautiful father who died from alcoholism and a broken heart. Beautiful, sad, haunting, desperate words. Thank you for sharing.
