Not My Time

Not My Time

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

Inspired by 3 Doors Down's song of the same title

"

The powers that be step up

To the edge of the shadows.

The dirt moves beneath my feet

Giving the illusion of home sweet home.

Minions prepare the devil’s lair

With gifts of red wine.

The grim Reaper awaits

For me to answer the door.

But they don’t understand

It’s not my time…

So they can all go straight to hell.

IT'S NOT YOUR TIME. YOU are bigger than all of that. Yes, sometimes the dirt moves under our feet, and it becons...however, it becons someone who is not you. the shadows are in the darkness, and they are attracted to the light, so when you find yourself in the shadows, it is a good sign. Shadows have no need of the darkness, for they are the darkness. When a candle glows in a dark room, the room is no longer dark. In the room with the candle, you will see the shadows because they want something they will never have. LIGHT. YOU are the candle my dear dear friend. YOU can never be succombed by the darkness.

Ha! Yeah, I see the 3 Doors Down influence. Love the attitude at the end especially. Its also got some really great lines. I especially liked:

Minions prepare the devil's lair
With gifts of red wine

It adds a touch of richness and decadence to the poem. I think you're right and we should thumb our nose at mortality. Really liked this one.

I like the groove of that band and the song is terrific. Your understanding of the lyrics is spot on...hopefully people will listen to the message;
"Don't gain the world and lose your soul
Wisdom is better than silver or gold"
Nice work Dale :-)

Only someone with the strong charisma that you possess would shake hands with the shadows and laugh in the face of their master death. Powerful in words and the spirit behind them. Would not expect less from you. Great writing as usual.

F**k death right? What an attitude. Short and sweet hon, just the way it needed to be.

Fiercely powerful stance against the universe in order to live as you wish! Awesome words to celebrate the fight to live...

Of course it isn't your time. :) Nicely, succinctly written Dale. I love the ending. I was throwing my fist up in the air. It's like that moment in the movies when someone gets revenge, LOL. Nicely done!
