Matters Of The Heart

Matters Of The Heart

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

When you ask the question

"

Should I stay or should I go?

Seems to be a simple question

Except when it come to

Matters of the heart.

With so many emotions

Flowing in and out

It can be so easy

To get them crossed

Or even lost amongst

Many vein decisions.

Love is much like the heart

Which is why I believe

They are connected.

For on the surface can seem

To function on simple principles

But the complexities are endless.

Both need constant care and work

In order to keep them strong and healthy.

If you neglect them

They can grow weak and soon flat line

And when abused over and over

A reason to continue

Ends up in the emergency room.

So when it comes to the matters of the heart

In the ways of love

And you ask yourself

Should I stay or should I go

Then ask yourself another question,

Are the 911’s of the relationship

Merely occasional palpitations

Or constant heart attacks?

You speak the truth here... Love is probably the biggest mystery of the human condition...if one could create a cure for "lovesickness", I believe it would be more valuable than a cure for cancer! LOL I like what you had to say here, the flow of the piece was nice, subtle. There were a few little spelling and grammer mistakes, but other than that, it was very nice.

This is n amazing honest & beautiful poem!
I love that you wrote about the question "should I stay or should I go" because there's not many pieces about this!!
You bring the subject to life in this piece....the words were popping out of the screen as I read!
My fave part was where you said
"So when it comes to the matters of the heart
In the ways of love
And you ask yourself
Should I stay or should I go
Then ask yourself another question,
Are the 911's of the relationship
Merely occasional palpitations
Or constant heart attacks?"

Great Write!!

This is very good, I have been in this situation and it's not as easy to just go as people think it is. I used to be those people until I was in that relationship. Luckily I broke free :)

I like how you work through the answer to this question, carefully explaining the emotions and the complexities before coming to your conclusion. This is a great comparison. One I hadn't thought of before.

And the Cowboy rides again....great metaphor that you carried throughout. Sounds like good common sense advice. Bravo!

Very intriguing! Nicely written. I love the font you used....one misspelling: (though it is really a pun)
Many vein decisions.

You meant to use the word 'vain'
I kinda like it the way it is because you are talking about the real pumping heart and then the seat of our emotions heart....so do whichever...vain or vein..haha
cheers, lea

wow...

how very true... love is a roller coaster of emotions - hard to tell sometimes if one should stay or go... what will happen in the end...

fantastic piece of writing.

This poem does ask the age ol' question. I agree at the very ending
when you say: Are the 911's of the relationship

Merely occasional palpitations

Or constant heart attacks?
A relationship isn't worth the pain and tears if one isn't
really happy. If one feels the attack coming on, then they should
run as fast as they can away:). AD

There is no coincidence here: love is a matter of the heart. We give heart shaped presents for Valentine's day ... The heart is considered as the centre of our emotions, yet we all know that in reality the brain is.
That is the message that I get from this poem!
Even in love, I should say rather: certainly in when in love we should be aware if our relationship is equally balanced because it is so easy to fall into a trap we cannot escape, whether we are male or female.
Another great message you sent out to the general public!
The ending says it all:
Are the 911's of the relationship
Merely occasional palpitations
Or constant heart attacks?
You are a poet on a mission!

Dale This is very profound. When it comes to matter's of the heart, there's no easy answer. As you so aptly stated it takes work to keep them healthy and stong. I like to think of a fire. If you tend it and feed it, it will continue to burn bright and stong but neglect it and soon all you have are cold ashes.
This is beautifully written and approaches a very difficult question to answer. And you pose a very good question of your own.

Very nicely done.
