The Joy Of October

The Joy Of October

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

This is the season

To appreciate

What goes bump

In the night

While enjoying

A sugar high.

So just enjoy the ghost and withes,

And everything scary

Connect with your childhood

For there is nothing more frightening than

Those so lost in reality

That they lost the child within.

So with a boo there

And a cackle hear

I smile with endless delight

As a Zombie passes me by

With a vampire by his side

And thank God my youth has not died.

Some whimsical verse. It leaves the reader enchanted and wanting to carve a pumpkin:)

Why thank you so much
I try to find something magical in every poem I read. Sadly it's not always possible. Here though I stumble upon a truly magical thought
Those so lost in reality/that they lost the child within
is an incredible image Reb. A short, simply expressed truism-warning to us all

thanks for featuring; otherwise I never would have stumbled upon it

You are welcome my friend.
Yes! Give me all the scary! Give me all the October feels!

BTW, I hope you'll go to WE PAW and submit several twisted nursery rhymes for our Halloween poetry prompt!

dearest Dale... you conjure up many a scary tale...
as I am Bewitched by Ghosts and Goblins and Pumpkins aglow...
I enjoy Halloween now more than ever... as it seems so Peaceful
compared to Politics and poor planning. Let us learn from the
gathering on the Eve of Halloween ... to love one another and Give
freely. tenderly, Pat

Thank you kindly Fran
I've never thought about why I love Halloween writing so much, but you may have hit on it. It's the idea of being childlike & believing in things that go bump in the night! (((HUGS)))

To lose the child within is sad
It’s nice when it comes back unexpectedly
I Like what you described I dont go in for Halloween much mainly cos In the sixties or early 70s in Australia when I grew up it wasn’t around but it took off a bit I’d say early 9o s but very slow
I’d say if I grew up with it I’d be reminiscing just like you
The first I ever really experienced it was when my kids in primary and it was very low key here probably then
Enjoyed the description in your poem

Now in the 2020s here it’s still medium to average in popularity no where near as as big as in USA

this is fun, and Halloween is still my favorite Holiday even if I no longer trick-or-treat...
