Because they are both walked on

 And always bounce back.

dear Dale... it depends who walks on the grass... you might just cherish their foot prints... and also puppies can steal your heart ... they can rest and keep Cool on the grass but Heaven forbid... they soil the grass. It would not be a laughing matter. I know the context of your poem and I apologize. It reminds me of the Country Western song... “You walked across my heart like it was Texas... you taught me how to say.. I just don’t Care.” You have to be a Survivor! I love the rest of that song also...
