Soft As A Rock

Soft As A Rock

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Your sitting on love

Like it’s a comfy

Leather couch.

Cleaning up your mess

Just like a slouch.

Take a look around you

And tell me what you see,

Because that shadow on the wall

Sure the hell isn’t me.

Your love has become

A circus in town,

But nevermore

Will I be the clown.

When I look into your eyes I can’t see your heart.

Corus:

Your love has become

 soft as a rock,

Chained to loneliness.

Standing in the middle,

Like it was a black hole.

When I walk the line

Right out the door

You can wipe your tears

Off a dry floor.

Though my destination

Is truly unknown

My heart is ready

To stand alone.

So I will say goodbye

To whatever you’ve become

And wish you well

When you turn

To face the sun.

Your love has become

 soft as a rock,

Chained to loneliness.

Standing in the middle,

Like it was a black hole.

It’s time to ride off before the night falls

And see your memory

On the other side of midnight.

When I look into your eyes I see the fall of  Rome.

Your love has become

 soft as a rock,

Chained to loneliness.

Standing in the middle,

Like it was a black hole.

Now I’m taking the high road while

you crawl underground.

Your love has become

 soft as a rock,

Chained to loneliness.

Standing in the middle,

Like it was a black hole.

This seems a million miles from the style I remember reading from you. This is so much more hard-hitting, whereas you used to be so rainbow-upbeat. Hmmm . . . not sure which one I like better, but I have to say, this one has more depth & intensity & expression than what I had been seeing from you some years back. I'm not crazy about your central line, reflected in the title & used liberally thru-out. It's just a weird comparison & it doesn't sing to me like other metaphors do. But your other sentiments are convincing, so I accept this as your way of seeing clever (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Sorry about that. just once in a while I need to get funny with my words. it is rare but it happens.
That's one hard woman you are singing about here. Liked the repetition in your lyrics Dale and I imagined these words being sung country style. Good job done :)

In liked the honest tone of the words and I could hear the song in the words. I liked the use of repetition. Hello my friend from Michigan and thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

Thank you so much.i'm going to see if I could fet my nest freind to put music to it.
'you can wipe your tears off a dry floor"---wish I had written that line...

the fall of Rome, the fall of love...one we put on a pedestal....has fallen off and cracked into a million fake pieces...
The eyes are so expressive of a person's feelings...and when we look into them we see what is there or not there.

It xwetainly is.
dear Dale... I can imagine this sung in soft Rock.
It is poignant and has a lonely feeling. Life can be
bittersweet and to sing the blues is helpful.
truly, Pat
