Evolution Of The Four Horsemen

Just some strong thoughts I have

 

Unleashed through the gates of a scroll

The product of man’s destructive force

Continuing their ride from decade to decade

Gaining momentum from all the blood sweat and tears

Of those who have no choice but to serve you.

 

The first riding in on his white horse

I’m only guessing it’s to look like the hero

All the while you use your bow and arrow to conquer

Everything your evil heart desires

And wearing that crown like you’re the King

Of knowing what best for the world.

 

Out of the shadows comes the second

On a horse of red to hide the blood you shed

With that mighty sword held so high

Letting us think war is the only way

But deep inside your twisted mind

It’s a game of revenge with money on the side.

 

Now here comes the one riding his black horse

With that scale always tipped one way

Weighted down with money, power and fame

Not giving justice a chance to balance

So I guess the little guy now pays for your crime

Since he can’t afford anything else.

 

We can’t forget the one who brings up the rear

Riding on a horse so pale since death is near

As a great nation built on truth, justice and freedom

Slowly loses its heartbeat and gasps for air

With the last chance being life support

Until the power goes ___________OUT.

 

I guess so much for the separation of church and state

As you can plainly see that The Four Horseman

That started from biblical times has evolved

Into a Government thing.

Oh, the first stanza really had me. I thought it was religion and the whole God thing you were talking about. Then at the end I realized it was about government. Well, whether religion or government, its about people trying to play God and taking control of everything and everyone. A very unique use of the four horseman. Very clever. I like it. How each horseman is a clever deception. The scales being tipped, the white horseman trumped up as a hero, the red making us think war is our only out... I reread it again and really saw the government throughout. Great symbolism. Brilliant concept.

Hey, Dale this was brilliantly original. Loved how you used the equestrians to describe all the different stages on our world. I specially loved;

Btw, the flat line was a nice touch, created the necessary space to build some suspense.
Great piece over all, seemed to flow perfectly and the events played off flawlessly, could almost think of expanding this into a story *hint*

Interesting take on the horsemen.
Creative on how you intermingled them into the government and it's actions. There are many movements who come in the guise of peace and spirituality, but actually seek to implement their own 'government' and way of ruling.....

The Four Horseman is a long standing icon and I liked the way you used it in this poem. The flow was spot on and the ending left a swirl of thoughts to be contemplated. There was only one typo that I noticed, in the third stanza it should be mighty sword not might sword. Great work.

Ahh, religion and politics, like spiritual myth and stage magic, can always walk hand in hand despite their differences. I do love the use of the Four Horseman. I am a fanatatic for mythology and I am delighted at your choice of the Horsemen. As we all know, the things governments do and the things religions preach rarely change, nor do the ways of man. The only thing that changes with humankind is "how" we do the rotten things we do, but the rotten things...like rotten governments...always stay the same. The piece is well-written and I can see you definately have a grasp on the Horsemen in mythology. Very nice analogies.

This is fantastic Dale... and that statement isn't doing it justice. Yes, the government proclaims to "help" or "protect" its people when it is them we should fear the most. Of course, you do know I'm a conspiracy theorist so this can become a very lengthy review on that issue! I think I'll wait. lol

I love the way you have applied biblical times to today... using the four horsemen as a guide into political injustices....etc. Excellent, thought provoking, insightful..... but like I've said before, I've come to expect that from you.
