D.O.A (Do Offend Americans)

 

Hey there, have you heard the news?

Words are just words,

Spoken from different views,

Spoken in different truths.

Some will sooth your mood,

Others will rattle your cage,

Don’t let the rage be the chain

That binds your space.

 

People have the right to be rude

And you have the right to call them crude.

There will be those who speak in prude

Not in time with your controversial tune.

Who is right and who is wrong

Will be a debate that will be

Till the end of the human race.

 

Politically correct is the noose

Around free speech’s neck.

If we just live our lives

And let others be who they were meant to be

We can live in peace

Even when our point of views

Are ready for war.

 

Many died for our right to be

Naughty or nice,

Happy or mean,

Silly or serious,

Ignorant or informed.

 

We the people have the right

To offend other Americans

When we stand up for what we believe.

Ah, a very cleverly worded rant. It reminded me of last nights Bill Maher. He took on part of this subject in one of his segments last night stating “[Minorities] think it’s ridiculous, you pretending you’re making a difference when you’re just making yourself feel better. It’s so ... white.” and as someone who is from a white and Hispanic background it rings true. Being offended by everything isn't helping or changing anything regardless of your race, gender, political view. Treat other how you would like to be treated. Bottom line... oh, and lighten up. Am I right? Sometime a joke is just a joke. It's how some people bring attention to an issue or how some people cope with an issue.

Freedom of Speech... I read often about this subject..but to every freedom there is a catch, called responsibility. As my life goes on, I find more and more use this as an excuse to use words as bullets..never carrying who they hit, or the damage it does.

This might be one of my favorites of yours, that I've read so far. This expresses something I've been thinking for a long time, when watching others bicker, but have never been able to put my finger on it, the way you have here. If you don't like it, it's a big-a*s country full of people, so go find someone who sees it your way, if you don't like confrontation. You have so aptly described the beauty of our freedoms in this country, even if the actual execution is mighty messy.
