I Saw A Red Moon Rising

I Saw A Red Moon Rising

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

I saw a red moon rising,

Giving the impression

That the wolf’s teeth

Are covered in blood,

So it can be blamed

For the slaughter

Of sheep that stray from

The field painted green

When in reality the truth lies

Within the heart of the herder

That has too much pride

Running through his veins.

You had me from the first line. The first line alone sounded pretty epic, and the rest of the poem makes it even better. I really like "When in reality the truth lies/Within the heart of the herder". Awesome work.

Thank you so very much.
First thought that comes to mind is the Boy Who Cried Wolf. Mostly because of the sense of twisted blame.

Very good!

Nice perspective, thank you.
Such huge responsibility requires huge courage but most will crumble when faced with adversity.

Nicely said Ana.
I was going to remark on the symbolism of this poem, but I like Jacob's term "allegory" better. Harry Truman had a mottoe: "The Buck Stops Here." He knew where the responsibility lay.

Thank you kindly Marie.
We are at heart - Herders, setting boundaries and expecting those boundaries to be honored all the time. When that doesn't happen, we let blood. Let us ask ourselves...Is it love? Or is it pride? Both cannot exist together. Such an interesting poem Dale and with such great imagery, I found myself reading and re-reading and enjoying myself each time.

i love the allegory here...the herder not wanting to admit vulnerability...

pride can be so debilitating ...maybe we are the ones to blame for the slaughter...we put the sheep in the vulnerable position....somewhat like our leaders....putting soldiers in harm's way...just to have their red moon rising.
