Cowboy Up!!

Cowboy Up!!

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

A tribute to one of my heroes Lane Frost and not because he was one of the greatest bull riders alive but a person who gave all to those he loved.

"

“Dedicated to World Champion Bull Rider Lane Frost a hero to me, not for his accomplishments in the arena but for the heart he showed the world and his loved ones every day.”

From such a young age

he was never afraid

to ride that wild bull

knowing deep down

that people would

sooner hurt you

before the horns.

That never kept him

from wearing his heart

upon his sleeve,

whether it was to stop

behind the chutes

to show a young buck

the secret of the ride

or signing autographs

for those adoring fans

kissing babies, shaking hands

liking running for president,

it always kept Tuff and Cody

waiting on Lane.

Giving a hand out

to an old cowboy in need,

helping the parents

built the space they need

or driving miles out of the way

for the woman of his dreams

were just those things he did

with the greatest of ease.

Could make the hardest person

a sentimental fool

and even in defeat

a crowd there would always be,

you’d think he hung the moon.

Never backing down from

an impossible challenge,

just ask Red Rock.

Always facing his biggest fear

of earning the love and respect

of his hero, his father.

Fighting his biggest mistake

to reclaim the love of his life.

There was he couldn’t do

for those important to his life.

Though taking away to soon

in spirit you still ride on

in the hearts and minds

of friends, family and fans

when on those Wyoming winds

we hear you say “Cowboy up!”

Lane Frost: A champion in the arena, a champion in life.

This is probably one of my favorites from you in a long time. You do so well w/ free verse poems. I feel you can include more real feeling and meaning when you aren't worried about rhyme or rhythm. It's hard to do all three, but it is equally hard to do free verse. Let me tell ya, I have a lot of problems free versing! You pulled it off here. I can see you reading this aloud at a memorial or a wake. Nice Dale. I love all the personal references, it makes even readers who don't know him feel like we do.

wow.. this has to be one of the best dedication pieces I have seen in a while. I've never heard of this person, as i don't follow bull riding, but i got such a great sense of who he was through your words... what a tramendous loss to this world. Sounds like he had a beautiful heart.

You've done a wonderful job here capturing the essence of the man, as well as the Cowboy. Making free verse flow effortlessly is not an easy thing to do but you've mastered it with this great tribute!

*hugs*

What a lovely tribute to a man you admired! He'd be honored to have had such lovely words written in his name - a true dedication.

Well done, Cowboy.

This is wonderful Dale. As I said earlier, it amazes me how you are able to switch styles so effortlessly and produce something completely different every time. That is not an easy task! Most of us carry something with us into each of our poems which identifies us as the author, even when we've switched gears. You truly have a gift ... leaving no trail of blood from one write to the next. Simply amazing.

This poem is excellent!! Flows so gracefully. Awesome as always my dear....
