I was never into the "pretty princess" thing, even as a kid... more like that line from My Big Fat Greek wedding - "I was a swarthy six-year-old with sideburns..." - and now I watch women my age overload on makeup and hair dye and I wonder if they even recognize themselves... I understand your sentiments here, but because it isn’t possible to please everyone in everyway all of the time, then practical people tend to hide behind multiple masks in public. Politicians, Sales People, and Movie Stars do this the most in order to concentrate political and economic social power. If someone’s really your friend, then it doesn’t matter how you look, but we all live in a very competitive entrepreneurial world that rewards the Art-of-Camouflage-and-Deception above all else. It’s good to get away from that Plastic Life Style at times, and relax among friends. Plastic People are in the majority. There are some movie stars who are composed of at least 80% plastic.

Oh damn do I love the message in this poem or what. You've really hammered the message right home. I honestly think we should just age naturally, why fill out body with all that junk... We are beautiful no matter how we look, there will always be someone who thinks so. I don't see the need to fill my body/face with botox or get anything like that done. I may wear make up (a lot of make up) to cover up my flaws but I'd never go to that length. I'm like my sister down there, K, I could go on and on and rant to you but I won't.

ah, such a good message in this poem Cowboy. I think every one needs to take a lesson on how to age gracefully and not be so worried about how society says we should all look. The media especially caters to this youthful obsession, because basically beauty and sex is what makes money. Ugh, I can go on and on about this but will stop there. You have captured the real beauty here, one of a sweet and loving heart. That heart when expressed can wake the sleeping beauties and rejuvenate their soul. Well done, a wonderful poem!
