I Was The Dark Side Of The Moon

I Was The Dark Side Of The Moon

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)
"

I don't usually explain my poems, but in this case I will. The last month leading up to my heart surgery I was not only in denial but illucinating. This poem depicts a lot of what I experienced.

"

The lunatics

         Are in my dreams,

Crossing my wires

So my subconscious is on rerun

Till I can’t distinguish reality.

The lunatics

         Are in my food,

Making everything taste

         Like human waste

Till I was withering away.

The lunatics

         Are in my bedroom,

Making it seem like

         A place of peace

Until I would be resting in…

The lunatics

         Are in my eyes,

Blurring me vision

So I could not see

the truth of my demise.

The lunatics

         Are in my mind,

Shorting out my intelligence

Making it impossible

To comprehend my impending fate.

The lunatics

         Turned my body

Into a land of confusion

         Until my best friend

Became the voice of reason.

This is an awesome write on the lunatic fringe! I think it's one of the best of yours I've read so far. I love the repeated opening of every stanza: "The lunatics" which represents many crazy-making aspects of life. I think your longer poems are many times better than your super-short poems becuz I find myself preferring to read more of your unusual & brilliantly-stated point of view, as you develop these longer ideas with such originality. This could be a metaphor for many things, besides your stated intent. I like the irony of picking this particular message to read on this particular week in history (US election) . . . there are definite parallels! *wink! wink!*

Traumatic events do make us see things differently... they are also a good source of inspiration. :)

Thank God indeed, thank you.
Let me add my wishes of getting rid of those lunatics, who even after we start to heal have things to say.. so welcome home and thanks to your friend... by the way I have heard a few of these lunatics over my way, nasty lil buggers.. your poem and my dream catcher are gonna capture them and bury them in the back yard. Send any leftovers my way and we'll take care of em.. ~~redzone

Thank you kindly for sharing you thoughts and wishes…. I am 110 percent better now.
I heard about your heart surgery from a comment on someone's profile, which explain your long absence to which of course, you were missed tons. I really hope you're okay now, Dale -- I hope the surgery was successful and you're back to yourself. :)

Wow, the detail in this is spot on and very powerful. I can't imagine what you were going through but thank goodness for your best friend, he saved the day, huh?

and you are okay now???? the surgery was successful?

i can imagine all these lunatic thoughts would perforate your senses, all the worry and wonder about how you would be after the surgery...all the unknowns..

As someone who does home health care I can tell you that if the hearts not working right...everything else goesto hell. As someone who cared for a person who was in denial and sick with heart failure I can tell you its no damn picnic. Its our bodies but if we dont take care of them they will betray us and the results can be inflicted on others around us. Bravo to your best friend for getting you to see the light. And I'm glad youre still here. ;-)
