Tough Decisions

Tough Decisions

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Within our freedom of speech

Is also the choice not to speak at all.

At times there is wisdom in silence,

Other times it seems almost criminal.

When there is nothing to gain but pride

Then peace is golden,

But when the heart is on the line,

Good or bad, it should be said.

For the heart is not a toy

Though it is resilient

When the pain is exposed in time.

Let it linger too long

And the dart becomes a dagger,

If it comes by way of a third party

Then the dagger could be a sickle

And you the reaper.

this could mean a lot of things.. the choice of speech or expression, or just the essence of relationships. This is well written. I like the ending

"And the dart becomes a dagger,
If it comes by way of a third party
Then the dagger could be a sickle
And you the reaper."

brilliant...

Bystander as guilty, not easy to find the balance keeping quiet or telling it like it is . Maturity and wisdom sometimes help though still can get it wrong. Love the last few lines thought provoking. Lovely write

OMG! There are a thousand messages I could be getting from you here! It also tells me so much more about you as a person.

The foremost thought I got was the feeling that you believe in speaking your mind about things you don't like, with the people you love! Well that's a good thing Dale, it's always a better thing than sweeping things too long under the carpet when the rubbish starts to rot.

Dale can act tough too...
"Then the dagger could be a sickle
And you the reaper - Boy! Do I see a whiplash coming on there! :)

A concise and hard hitting write from a man who knows how to put his point across in few words.

This poem is a new favorite!

You are welcome Dale. The lines are now a part of my heart! :)

Old world wisdom. The best kind. A wise man don't waste words on people who do not want to hear them. Thank you for the excellent poetry.

There are times I've wanted to speak but didn't. I find it very difficult in some situations but when I look back, I was right. Then there are the other times I did when I shouldn't have. There is indeed wisdom in silence if we have the wisdom to know when to adhere to it.

Good poem, as always.

Why thank you so much.
"silence is golden, but my eyes still see"

i was taught as a youth to be seen and not heard...but there is power in observation..

and those who really pay attention can benefit by that later on.

nice piece, Dale.
