Tough Decisions

Tough Decisions

A Poem by The Rock And Roll Cowboy(REBEL WITH A CAUSE)

Within our freedom of speech

Is also the choice not to speak at all.

At times there is wisdom in silence,

Other times it seems almost criminal.

When there is nothing to gain but pride

Then peace is golden,

But when the heart is on the line,

Good or bad, it should be said.

For the heart is not a toy

Though it is resilient

When the pain is exposed in time.

Let it linger too long

And the dart becomes a dagger,

If it comes by way of a third party

Then the dagger could be a sickle

And you the reaper.

this could mean a lot of things.. the choice of speech or expression, or just the essence of relationships. This is well written. I like the ending

"And the dart becomes a dagger,
If it comes by way of a third party
Then the dagger could be a sickle
And you the reaper."

brilliant...

Thank you.
from dart to dagger, we at times prick and/or slice at the heart, unthinking or at times, very conscious of the pain being inflicted. It is an art form to be honest with others and ourselves, but also to let down in a tender and sensitive way.

It seems to be a lost art form... Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

very true Dale... you put it just like it is, I guess we learn slowly to make the tough decisions when they are necessary... doesn't mean we always get it right. I think we all have different approach to words, confrontations, in saying how we really feel and come to realise that in our own time.. this gives renewed awareness into ourselves, our honesty and responsibility. thanks, awesome.

What I derive from this well- written piece the most is the power of silence. I have found that sometimes I learn more about a person in their silence. But certainly things left unsaid can destroy as much. Thank you for sharing this, Dale.

I agree with you 100%! I keep trying to explain that to people, but they never listen. I love how you got to your point by sort of introducing your topic first. And on a completely different note, your format kinda looks like a skull :P

thank you for the review.
I like the title Tough Decisions. It draws me in to the poem. Then you debate speaking up or staying silent. Communications are difficult. Nice job on tackling a tough subject.

Thank you very much.
It is a concern to every civil minded individual that their speech not exude in pride. Only that it represent itself accurately as to the relative nature of the truth. Our lives in the social relations is neccessarily founded on such relative truths.

In such an experience, we sometimes encounter a point of foolishness for having believed something that was only relatively true. Perhaps we thought it more true in some way. But when all is said and done we realize that every issue is true only in time, place and the state of mind of the experiencer. It is as true as the world allows it to be. Nice write Dale.
