It is symbolic... for what? That is for me to know and you to interpret.

 

You cannot stand on solid ground

that was built on a fault line

without expecting to eventually

having to break your fall.

So tying your hands leaves no doubt

of a painful landing and cracking

like Humpty Dumpty.

Without mobility you’re left

to chill out in the elements

till frost bite and sunburn

distort your reflection that causes no one

to want to come within arms reach

to help you up.

Someone making a hopeless situation hopeless by somehow disabling or putting themselves at disadvantage. This could be more applicable in relationships, I feel, specially abusive ones...
Where not empowering oneself by reaching out to others in time can leave on a ghost of oneself and isolated and alienated from loved ones.

This poem can be used for many things. The descriptions are profound. It can be about life changes any kind that are dysfunctional and destructive, drugs Alcoholism depression etc. Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom and pull ourselves up because others have done it time and time again and there is no one left but ourselves to pull us up.

If one does not work to ensure security and strength then that which we build is not stable and the fault line will appear - fault of ours in a failure that will cause one to fall as that which one has becomes a problem, or if a person, perhaps goes away all together. If we are too rigid in our beliefs, or our expectations then we feel as if we are under attack from the elements and no matter how hard we try we are unable to see the truth for what it is. We send a "hands off" message to others, or they just don't know how to help us anymore!

well I see it as if you are not willing to help yourself, no one else can help you either.... it starts in yourself with your own will... I'm probably way off, it is a really thought provoking poem though.. and prolonged exposure to the elements sound painful.
