The Fool in the TreeA Screenplay by GigiA short 10 minute film (Hopefully becomes that long), for a film festival that is coming up on Maui. The Film Festival is being held by "Reverse Origami". "Oh sweet sorrow, Oh sweet bliss. Never, did I think it would become this." I'm on my way to begin life, or end it... I am not precisely sure... All I know is that I am walking there at a speed of 3 miles an hour. __________________________________________ There is a man that lives in a tree... (We are not exactly sure). He never leaves the tree... (At least of what we've seen). The Fool in that Tree, never dared to speak a word. (But it depends on your perception of speaking). He speaks not with his tongue but his emotion-spewing eyes. (Many think it's better that a fool does not speak at all). Properly revered as "The Fool in the Tree", They like to compare him to that song from The Beatles. The eyes in his head see this world spinning 'round, and he is never the one to speak to the people. But this Fool likes to stay in a tree. He might stay there because it is a comfort zone. Have you ever felt the urge to walk over to a tree or lie on the ground, whenever a great depravity has beheld you? If you have, then you were going to your comfort zone. The Earth is where we started, and therefore where we feel our safest. Or He might stay there because it has a great view. He watches the days go by, appreciates the beauty, and he harvests the wisdom. One Day... A woman came by with a melancholy that surrounded her entire being. She walked over to the Fool in the Tree, and settled herself in the roots. The Fool in the Tree looked down at her but gave no notice. Why should he pay attention to someone that has stopped living. The woman was of course a normal, breathing, moving creature. But all the people that surrounded her earlier before would have told you that, "Her eyes were listless", "Her touch was numbed", and "She spoke only of the pity that she felt for herself". She hadn't meant to become a corpse.... In fact before she wasn't living, she was one of the optimists. She was the mirror that always made fat people look thinner. Her outlook on life was so ethereal, too positive for such a dark place. The Corpse looked up to the Fool in the Tree. "Rejection is a hard path..." The Fool in the Tree's eyes had wandered over to the direction of which she loitered. She gave out a stuttered sigh... "Especially when the path never seems to end..." The Fool's eyes wandered away, why should he listen? The Corpse put her hands together, and whispered, "Why couldn't he love me back? Where is the person that was made for me? Other people are blessed with love... Why can't I be too?" The Fool didn't answer. "My friends have been calling me corpse behind my back... but what do they mean by that?" The corpse kept her face apathetic and vacant. "If I am a corpse to them... Am I a corpse to everyone?" The Fool looked over at her and nodded. The corpse took a moment to herself and then let free another whisper, "A corpse can be loved by others... it can be loved by the worms, the lonely necrophiliac, and the the Earth that surrounds it." "So why can't I be loved?" The Fool disengaged a breath. Looked down at her mournful eyes, lied upside down on the tree and pointed to something carved into the bark. The Corpse followed his arm to his finger all the way to the inscription and read the words... "I love you, not for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. -Roy Croft". The Corpse looked up to the Fool in the Tree. His eyes had found their way into her soul. When the eyes were there, she felt an inspiration come over her. A revelation that was in hibernation until it was evoked by a Fool that lived in a tree. "It's not my fault, but at the same time it is. My attitude does seem to affect my chances of being loved... Perhaps if I cheer myself up, then the company I keep would be happier." The Fool looked at her and nodded his head to the side. She then said, "Does happiness determine the feelings that will ensue from the other person?" The Fool smiled and looked off into the horizon. "So... that means that my happiness will bring my true love to me?" He closed his eyes, and kept the smile. She climbed up the side of the tree and gave the Fool a kiss on the cheek. The Fool's heart fluttered like the eyelashes of a flirtatious woman. He fell out of the tree, with a happy stumble. Then he looked toward to the top of the tree, with the leaves, Fluttering and moving as fast as his heart was pounding. The woman said, "Thank you". He looked over to the woman and blushed, while trying to hide his face. Who would have known that the real reason that he was a fool, was because of the adorable sensation of love that he expressed. His attitude certainly attracted her towards him. Now she just had to return the favor.... <3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Instantly at that moment the woman had felt herself rise from the grave, and feel the soothing warmth of the sun. _________________________________
