Orbits

Orbits

A Poem by Dead Poetix

Each winter is distant, but then in summer

when I swing closer and closer to you

I get hotter and hotter.

But each year spins further out from the last.

Now, Jupiter keeps eyes on me,

and Saturn jealously guards his rings

in case I come scavenging for shiny things.

They know the colder I get, the further out I stay.

Someday, when you can’t pull be back in:

another dead and mindless asteroid flying

further and further on inertia alone.

Nothing to stop me.

Author's Note

Dead Poetix
it didn't START as depressing as it ended up... it was just supposed to be about space...

I don't think this is depressing...and I'm not sure I think it's about space, either. I love it, though. It has its own whimsy...a pull that grabs the reader and takes them on that journey with you...through the solar system of emotion. Love this line:
and Saturn jealously guards his rings/in case I come scavenging for shiny things.
Very nicely done!
