![]() Loud BrainedA Poem by devonThe school counselor wanted to know Exactly what was it I wanted to do with the rest of forever Her kind blue eyes traveled my face And I wondered if she could hear my brain Rattling with all the possibilities All the possibilities, Each involving you I wanted to tell her I’d be an astronomer and study the Cosmic, far off look in your eyes That you get when your mind connects Thought after thought in a galaxy I so wish To travel to I’d be a psychologist and keep A moleskin journal and record the nervous Way you pull on tufts of your sandy hair, Or your habit of telling lies so often Even you believe them I’d be a mathematician and figure up A most complex equation that explains all The sharp angles and soft edges Of the most beautiful face that’s Been sculpted in the likeness of humankind I’d be an anonymous poet and in ambiguous And brilliantly strung out words, I’d share every Single part of you with the love struck teens and the Over analyzing professors and the abstract thinkers And still keep you secret “I’d like to study law,” I told her Her smile was a theatrics that matched my own And I wondered if she had heard my brain, Or if she had, too, once been a teenager drowning in a boy’s Stupid everything I wanted to ask her © 2014 devonFeatured Review
