A Rose By Any Other Name

A Rose By Any Other Name

A Poem by devon

Ninth grade literature,
And you swore on the grave
Of your mother
Who was not yet dead,

That you were Romeo,
And I was Juliet.

But I had already read the play
Over the summer,
And I just smiled to myself,
Because I knew.

I would survive.
I was just another Rosaline.

I read over this like five times, and each time I get the same idea of what this is about.
I know I say this on all your poems, but I love your writing so much! Even when I can't interpret it that well, it's still amazes me. If you had a book of your poetry, I would by a million copies and pass them out so everyone could see how talented you are. I don't care if you argue, you are!
Anyways, I think I maybe, sort of understand what this is about. Obviously, Romeo and Juliet, but in a more general term. Like this guy came up to you and tried to swoon you or impress you, and you smiled because you already knew what he was saying but you didn't get your hopes up because you knew you would just be like Rosaline. Because eventually he'll move on and see something better?
I loved this a lot! Great job as always! :)
and How are you? We haven't talked in awhile.:)

Not bad, and you have a good image here. I think there might be a bit more merit to this if you take out the first line, as I think it grounds the piece a little too much, but other than that, well done.
