Musings of an Old Man

Musings of an Old Man

A Poem by devon

“What is real and what is not

Is only a question

To be asking if one dreams too little

And too infrequently,”

Bellows the old man.

“How, then, do you know

If what is real is truly real

If you dream too much?”

Questions the boy on the lap

Of the old man.

The old man’s abdomen shakes

Them both with laughter.

“My dear boy!” He chuckles,

“If your dreams are reality,

You can never dream too much.”

It speaks rightly of Alzheimers and dementia. But also I think the old are so very fond of their memories because they are old. Once you get past a certain age some things one simply cannot do anymore...so what is left but to dream or remember? High marks!

Thank you; I'm so glad you liked it!
The old man in this poem is speaking the truth. One who dreams in the highest can accomplish anything much the same way that a believing bird takes flight. This poem does not speak of any other generation but surely points at this one. Belief in things has faded and hearts filled with every joy that once was has dissolved like melting snow on a sidewalk. Great write and nicely penned!
Best regards,
