A War of the Heart

A War of the Heart

A Poem by devon

You lurk in the shadows

Of every memory that I own.

It’s an uphill battle just to forget you,

But it’s the only fight I’ve ever known.

I’m growing stronger with every wound.

Knees hit a cold, wooden floor,

But that doesn’t mean I’m defeated.

The casualties have been high.

The thought of losing a soldier isn’t happily greeted,

But I’ll fight until we’ve won.

And somewhere amidst bursting bombs,

And the brawl for life,

I’ve seen a friend’s last words written in stone

Because they were lost to the strife.

This war is one I refuse to lose.

This is about depression and my own struggle with it, seeing people give up their fight and essentially their lives because of it, and my determination to not let it overwhelm me completely.

Stay strong ♥. I've been there myself, and though I still struggle at times, it is not to the same extent as when I was younger. I have learned what helps me to keep my energy up, and my thoughts positive when I feel the depression coming on. I am confident that you can do the same, especially with the positive attitude expressed in this poem. Very nicely written.

I seriously cannot get over the fact that every writing of yours, makes me think you're way older than you actually are! You have such a natural gift! Im totally jealous! :D

Aw, thank you! :) And you shouldn't be jealous; you're amazingly talented, yourself!
A strong message you have here! Yeah, I've seen people giving up quite often, and I think trying to talk to them and help them is the best thing we can do. You know, make them know they're not alone. :D
Anyways, this is a great poem, my favorite stanza is the second one - it seems really inspiring and encouraging! Oh, and I like the rhyming scheme.
Keep it up! :)

I can't say anything about this without sounding like an annoying fan girl. I just love how you explained the feeling. I love you, babe. (:
